FEC Issues Proposed Rulemaking on Electioneering Communications

August 28, 2007

The Federal Election Commission is seeking comments on two proposed alternatives to address electioneering communications. The rulemaking comes as a result of the US Supreme Court's decision in Wisconsin Right to Life v. FEC in which the Court decided that the ads in question were subject to an exemption from the restriction on the use of corporate or union funds for electioneering communications. The deadline for public comment is October 1, 2007.  The FEC will hold a public hearing on October 17, 2007 for those who wish to testify before the Commission.
